For up to 100 children or small groups, a large alive sound sculpture results in

The Air Orchestra consists of instruments which produce their sounds by moving through the air. The sound is achieved by swirling them through the air on strings. So the participants automatically experience the fun of movement and dance. Rhythmical, melodic and atmospheric sounds are produced.

Instruments for experimenting or for an intensive workshop:

 
Mosquito from Austria: mp3(50kb)
Holzspatel, corks, rubber band and file
cards fixed together sound like a swarm
of mosquitoes when they circle through
the air.


 
 

Turning Bird from China: mp3(28kb)
An empty film container with a slit and string whistles like a bird.



 


Whizzing
Wood
from Austria: mp3(42kb)
thin, lancetshaped piece of wood produces
whizzing sounds as it swirls around on a string.



 
 


Humming Bow
from Japan,
where it used to be attached to the kites. The so-called “Unari” produces different humming sounds by itself in the wind. Held in your hand it will induce you to turning movements and dance. When attached to a piece of string and whizzed around your head, wild howling sounds come forth.

 


Whizzing Pipe from the USA:
A rippled pipe produces the whole range of high tones.

 

 
 


Flying Bottle

(an invention of the author)
whistles just as if it were blown with the
mouth.



 


Humming Disc from Siberia:
A wooden disc punctured
with holes very quickly
whirls producing humming
sounds.




Fluttering Ribbon from Germany:
Crepe-paper strips flutter through the air drawing figures in the sky.


Air Orchestra

Space requirement:
- a large meadow, because each instrument need a lot of place.
- The meadow should be locked.
- The organizer should place tables and banks for the work range.
- Instruments to building during the action.
- Material and tools for 500 persons are bringing along.
